Import from digital cameras (including iPhone 3GS) does not work

    Hi Manton,

I've bought and purchased clipstart, but it's unable to import videos directly from my iPhone 3GS or my Nikon D90. The Import From Folder stays as Import From Folder, and the Import from Camera... option is greyed out.

I hope this can get fixed soon.

A suggestion for an enhancement is to allow batch adding of tags. Like, select 20 pictures and type "baby" or something.

Confirming that the iPhone 3GS isn't recognized by Clipstart, and seconding the request for bulk tagging. It took me a few attempts before I realized this feature actually didn't exist. Importing a ton of existing files into Clipstart and tagging them individually is tedious at best.

I've fixed several problems with the 3GS being recognized on some system for 1.1.1, which should be released on Monday. If you'd like, you can try the beta now:

As for bulk tagging, thanks for the feedback. I'll be adding more in this area. In the meantime, I've found the most convenient way to tag multiple videos is by tagging one video and then using the Edit -> Copy Tags / Paste Tags feature to paste them on to the other videos. If the other videos already had tags, the new tags will simply be added.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. I'm just downloading it now - I noticed that Clipstart's Check for Updates function did not know that 1.1.1 was out.

Importing videos from a digital camera (that's not USB Mass Storage compatible) still doesn't work. The 3GS is fine now, but my Nikon D90 still won't work. It's the kind that doesn't show up as a USB drive, but does show up in iPhoto. Any ideas?

That's correct. Clipstart only supports the iPhone 3GS and cameras that are USB mass storage compatible right now. And of course SD or Compact Flash card readers. I expect to finish support for additional cameras in the next version, which will be released this month.

I wanted to update you on this issue of digital cameras that cannot be mounted over USB. That feature did not make it into Clipstart 1.2 after all, but it's a top priority for the next version. I hope you can use an SD or CF card reader until it is ready. Thanks for your patience, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Clipstart 1.2.1 now officially supports cameras connected over USB even if they can't mount as mass storage devices. I don't have a Nikon to test with, so please let me know if you have any problems.

I think you need to download a driver for your digital camera. if the computer cannot recognize your device when you try to connect it using your USB data cable.

No problems importing from a Canon 5D MkII via a SanDisk CF card reader connected via FireWire 800.
