What does it do? Wii Transfer can share your music and pictures directly to your Nintendo Wii using the Internet Channel. Browse iTunes playlists and iPhoto albums on your television. Wii Transfer can also convert movies for playback in the Wii's Photo Channel and manage saved game backups.

How do I get the movies onto my Wii? You will need an SD card writer for Wii Transfer to copy the movie files to. (I recommend this SanDisk on Amazon if you don't have one.) Once the movie has been converted and saved on the SD card, you insert the SD card into the Wii and use the Photo Channel to browse and play your movies.

Does it work with DRM-protected music or videos purchased from the iTunes Music Store? No. Protected music and videos cannot be converted. However, unprotected AAC files are supported, including iTunes Plus songs.

What audio files does music sharing support? Music sharing supports MP3s and unprotected AAC files. MP3 files with variable bitrate encoding will also not play properly.

Why is my Save button disabled? The Save button is for saving the movie directly to your SD card. If Wii Transfer can't find a removable drive, that option is disabled. Instead you can choose "Save As..." from the File menu.

Where's the sound? The demo version does not convert the sound. Please purchase Wii Transfer to enable sound conversion.

Does it work with MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 "muxed" files? No. Due to a limitation in QuickTime, Wii Transfer cannot currently export audio from "muxed" (multiplexed) video. To see if one of your movie files is encoded in this way, open it in QuickTime Player and choose Show Movie Info from the Window menu. A future version of Wii Transfer may be able to process these files.

Can't I just use QuickTime Pro or another product? Sure. But if all you need is Wii compatibility, Wii Transfer has a convenient user interface and a great price.

Do the converted files take up the same disk space as the originals? No. In some cases the converted movies can be much larger. You may wish to try the demo version of Wii Transfer to see what capacity SD card you will need. 1GB or 2GB SD cards are fairly inexpensive now.

Can I rip feature-length DVDs and watch them on my Wii? Maybe. The file sizes are very large. Although one person has reported that the Wii limits movies to 15 minutes, I have been able to successfully watch a 30-minute video podcast. Any longer and you will have to make some compromises in the video quality. If you an experience to share, send email to support@riverfold.com.

What about YouTube? Wii Transfer makes a great companion to other Mac tools that can save movies to your computer from YouTube.

Does picture sharing support movies? No. If Wii Transfer encounters a movie in your iPhoto library, it will show a still frame for that movie when browsing pictures on the Wii. To play movies on the Wii, convert and copy them to an SD card using the "Convert movies" pane in Wii Transfer.

Why can't the Wii connect to my Mac for sharing? It either never loads or after a delay I just see broken image icons. Make sure that your Mac and Nintendo Wii are on the same local network. Open the Wii Transfer Help and search for "network setup" for details. If you use the Mac OS X built-in firewall, you will also need to open up port 9000 for Wii Transfer. Watch this screencast for a walk-through of changing your firewall from System Preferences.
